dia de los muertos
dia de los muertos, or the day of the dead, is celebrated by people of mexican ancestry. it is a day to get together with family and friends to remember and pray for family and friends who have passed away. in 2019, i went to a photography event for dia de muertos. photographers, models and makeup artists throughout houston got together to do a shoot. i thought the shoot was going to be outdoors but turns out, the shoot was to take place mostly indoors inside the club henke & pillot.
as a natural light photographer, this presented some obstacles because i didn’t have lighting equipment. however, i enjoyed this shoot so much because it challenged me creatively to take photos with the existing light from the windows. although the club was huge, there was a limited amount of space that i could shoot with the gear i had. here are some photos from that day. i really enjoyed them and hope you do too! the makeup is absolutely stunning and the models were incredible. my favorite shots are of the model dressed in pink. she reminds me of frida kahlo and i feel they could be featured in magazines.
